Hazardous waste treatment facility

Client's Needs

CURIUM was requested to urgently manage the triggering of a radioactivity detection gantry on a container containing materials contaminated with asbestos. This waste came from a former industrial site that was in the process of being secured before demolition works. CURIUM intervened to identify and specify the radiological contamination using portable measuring equipment, and taking samples for analysis in CURIUM’s in-house laboratory.

It turned out that a significant quantity of similar objects were present on the site (of a surface of more than 10,000m²), which CURIUM qualified and quantified. More than 600 tons of waste with natural radioactivity were thus identified.
