On an industrial site by the sea, 9 old 800-litre cylinders containing chlorine were stored. The cylinders were highly corroded due to the storage time and the marine atmosphere. The presence of these cylinders presented a danger for the operators of the site as well as for the neighbouring populations, as highlighted in the HAZOP study carried out by CURIUM before the works.
CURIUM carried out an in situ treatment of the chlorine gas by pressure drilling in order to replace the non-maneuverable valves, followed by the treatment of the chlorine gas in a mobile gas scrubber using a soda solution.
